2. Icelandic Rock

Skagaströnd, Iceland / October - December 2023
Icelandic Inspired Collection

My 3-month winter residency in Iceland in 2023 was an unplanned adventure, an immersion in the rural landscape and unpredictable winter weather. The idea of "contrast" struck me during a long walk along the hills, where icy glaciers meet fiery volcanoes, waterfalls meet snow, running horses meet sturdy houses, and sharp cliffs meet green rock moss. "Contrast" is what inspired me to blend two of my iconic vessel styles into one unique piece. By combining curves with sharp edges, I recreated the concept of contrast and presented a mesmerizing symphony of Icelandic nature.

I exclusively used stone clays, enriched with wild clays extracted from the hills. This choice isn't just about visuals; it's about the tactile experience. I aim to immerse my audieneces in the sensory "contrast" of Iceland through my pieces, allowing you to touch and feel the very land that inspired them.

"A month later, the first snowfall in North Iceland—a complete plot twist."

I fell into the magical trap of the icy landscape, the romantic moment of the soft white blanket covering the rugged black volcanoes. These thoughts led me to create these pieces using black and white stone clay to imitate the snowy black sand landscape under my feet—"The Snow Black".
